Go The Distance Day is a FREE one-day
event for Iowa Schools!
Its Purpose Is To:
-
Show Iowa youth that
physical activity is fun
and makes them feel good!
-
Increase public
awareness of youth
physical inactivity.

Inform the public that physical education programs are needed in our schools!
How Do We Participate?

DESIGNATE a
coordinator for your
school
-
REGISTER your
school today
-
WRITE a
fitness pledge for all
students to recite on Go
The Distance Day
-
PLAN a 30
minute physical activity
event for your school
-
RECORD the
number of participants
-
REPORT your
100% participation by
NOON on Tuesday, May 10,
2011
We encourage schools to be creative when planning their
physical activity. Some examples
include:
hiking at a local park, dancing, track and field events, or a community clean
up.
If you are unable to
participate in Go The
Distance Day on Friday, May
6, 2011 you may hold your event
any day that week (May 2
- May 9).
Monetary Awards:
-
Each school that achieves 100 percent participation will be entered into a
drawing for a chance to win one of several monetary awards. One $1,000 award
and four $500 awards will be given away!
-
The monetary awards must be used toward physical education,
wellness efforts or new
playground equipment.
